5 Nutrients to Increase Before Summer

Uncategorized Apr 11, 2019

There is nothing like a change in weather to boost the morale of a whole state! This warm weather has me itching for more sun, time on the lake paddle boarding, hiking our gorgeous parks, and pretty much any adventure you can name—thanks to the ladies at j’adore Detroit; they always keep us in the know!

As we pass through spring on our way to summer, it’s important to intentionally help the body transition and prepare for the upcoming season. Here are 5 nutrients to begin increasing to ensure your mind & body will thrive for all your summer shenanigans:

  • SUNSHINE:

While we still have dips in temperature, the days are longer and the sun is OUT and shining so much more. Start taking advantage of the extra light now to maximize the light of our short mid-western summers.

Increased exposure to natural sunlight will gradually prepare your skin for more time outdoors, regulate hormones by helping balance your circadian rhythm, improve moods, enhance sleep quality,...

Exercise For Emotional Well-Being

Uncategorized Mar 28, 2019

Exercise has long been known for its aesthetic and vast physical benefits. However, in the age of hyper-speed, the go-go-go mentality, the mass amount of distractions from social media, and beyond, exercise is more needed than ever from an emotional standpoint.

Let’s break it down:

  • Positive mindset - Exercise naturally boosts the release of serotonin and dopamine. These are endorphins that promote feelings of well-being and happiness that help improve an individual’s outlook on the world and themselves.

  • Improved self-esteem - Yes, you’ll probably trim down and tone up from regular movement, but even more the act of taking care of yourself plus challenging your body can increase your overall confidence and inner strength.

  • Decreased stress - While exercise is a “stress” on the body, it is a positive one. Movement works as a conduit to channel and release daily life stressors from the body, which ultimately increases your stress resiliency or...

5 Ways to Increase Your H2O Intake Immediately

Uncategorized Mar 14, 2019

We are slowly but surely creeping closer to glorious summer nights & warmer temperatures! This makes it all the more essential to check your daily water intake to make sure you are prepared for increased activity in the heat.

We live in a state surrounded by fresh water and in a country where it’s rarely not within reach. With superfluous amounts available, it can be easy to overlook it’s primal need. However, without water, the human body would wither and perish quite rapidly, as every single cell (approximately 30-40 trillion) requires water to function properly.

I always love to tell my clients that drinking water is one of the most intentional habits we must cultivate; once you feel “thirsty” you are already dehydrated! This means you have to consciously make the choice to drink water before any feelings of being parched arrive.

A simple rule of thumb to follow is to drink half your bodyweight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 160 lbs, you would...

How to Check Your Alignment

Uncategorized Feb 28, 2019

Life is constantly seeking to be in a state of homeostasis or balance. However, energy is dynamic, constantly ebbing and flowing to counterbalance previous reactions in pursuit of finding a perfect balance.

Everyday the body faces different stressors from rapid weather and temperature changes, allergens, environmental toxins, overwhelm at work, life transitions, lack of sleep, angry _(boss, spouse, friend, etc.)_, bacterial and viral strains, fear of disappointing ______, news, world events, processed food, etc. that pull us out of a balanced or aligned state.

The list of stressors goes on and it is remarkable what the body is able to tolerate and still perform at relatively high levels. Think about it though, without little to no help from us (lack of movement, unhealthy food choices, high stress environments, high levels of caffeine and substances to ‘keep on, keeping on’) the body is able to put up with A LOT.

In addition to these stressors, we are also faced with...

Self-Care for Self-Love

Uncategorized Feb 14, 2019

Happy Love Day j’adore Detroiters!

Today is a perfect day for us to dive into Habit Number 4, self-care. When practiced consistently there is no better act of self-love.

While self-care is a buzz topic that has gained a lot of mainstream media in recent years, I have noticed most individuals I talk to are still confused as to what it really means and how to practice it regularly.

Let’s break it down. By definition self-care is the practice of taking action to preserve one’s health.

To put it simply, self-care is the daily maintenance needed to help our minds and bodies feel their absolute best. This can and does look different for each and every one of us, which is why it’s important to develop an individualized menu that nurtures your specific needs.

When I ask clients about their self-care regimen I often sense subtle defensiveness or excuses about time, money, resources, etc. and I get why. For years massages, facials, pedicures and the like have been...

Mindset - Change Your Self-Talk, Change Your Life

Uncategorized Jan 31, 2019

YOU SEXY MOTHERF*CKER. YUPP. WELCOME TO MY SELF-TALK.

I recently shared a post on 5 Habits to Master in 2019, so we are diving right into habit number five - Mindfulness, or Mindset as I'll most often refer to it. There are countless places that we could begin in terms of mindset, but I've found that it doesn't matter how many positive actions you take to improve your life if you don't radically love and accept yourself & your body.

There are five fundamental, yet basic, steps to take to revive your mindset. I’ll be sharing more about each step in upcoming posts, but the first step that starts it all is Awareness.

THINK ABOUT IT.

Our body carries us through this one life we have and while we can always seek to optimize its potential, there is a difference between punishing & manipulating it vs simply providing the tools needed to thrive.

To learn more about mindset and changing your self-talk, read more on the J'adore Detroit blog.

5 Habits to Master in 2019

Uncategorized Jan 17, 2019

While we live in the 21st century, our bodies are pretty archaic - cellularly speaking. They are old-fashioned and the simplest of habits make them most happy, despite our brain’s yearning for the newest developments in tech.

Today we have more health related apps and gadgets than ever and yet the mass majority of individuals are chronically unhealthy, which teaches us something profound.

To quote one of my mentors, Stacey Morgenstern, “Small hinges swing big doors.”

We often think we’ll have to do something drastic to shift our health or life in a positive direction, but rather it is quite the opposite. When we go all in too fast it can be too much for our psyche causing us to self-sabotage and resort to old behaviors before we even reach February.

To learn the 5 habits in their entirety, head on over to the J'adore Detroit blog!

Small Space Movement Challenge 2018

movement revived health Nov 21, 2018

It is my first midwest winter in four years and it has got me feeling like...

The last thing I want to do is put on gym clothes and venture out into the tundra to workout. Additionally, over the last year and a half, many old injuries have appeared and I have had to scale my workouts down significantly.

While I have been working to rest and heal during this time, my body has begun to deeply crave movement again. Any of my fellow do'ers out there have a hard time allowing the process to go as slow as it needs to for a full recovery?

Since this healing journey began, fourteen years ago, I have had to step further and further outside of routine and experiment to find the movement, nutrition, and self-care practices that work best for my body. It has had many trying times, but the wisdom that comes from experiencing different challenges I would not trade for anything...which leads to how this whole movement challenge came to be.

Two years after leaving gymnastics I found the...

How To Go After What You Want

mindset Oct 29, 2018

Have you ever experienced that giddy excitement when a new idea comes to mind and you imagine what it would actually be like for you to experience it? Maybe it is a new business idea, a charity you want to start, a new type of exercise, or even a hobby that might be out of your current comfort zone.

Today we live in a world where we have the ability to create and BE almost anything we can imagine so the question is...what has the little voice in the back of your head been begging you to take action on?

Have you been listening to this voice or have you been suppressing it? Whether it was the former or the latter, notice what feelings and sensations come up for you?

Creating change is uncomfortable no matter how much we want it. Our biology is programmed to keep us where we are, despite how uncomfortable it may be, because to our psychology it is safe and survivable. Remember a little discomfort now, for greater comfort later.

For questions to help you further...

10 Tips to Cultivate Success in 2018

Uncategorized Jun 18, 2018

When I am planning a new year, I love to zoom in and out until I have a clear vision of what the best path forward looks like. Here is a sneak peek at how you can begin to do this for yourself!

First, zoom out. Take the whole year into consideration and get a feel for what you would love to be celebrating December 31, 2018. What is this version of you experiencing that feels unreal to share with your loved ones? What lets you know you’re experiencing this? What do you see, hear, and feel around you?

Second, zoom in.

Before you zoom in, one quick thing. Be unattached. Hold the year vision as the propeller that excites you to take the necessary action. Honor each step that you take, but be unattached to it looking exactly like you imagined it. This allows spaciousness for new ideas, resources, and partnerships to come into play and possibly even expand the outcome that you were originally able to dream up.

Okay, now back to zoom in.

Taking on the entire year at once is...
